To those of you who are new:
Four years ago I (Emily) received a breast cancer diagnosis. It was a turning point that holds so many feelings I couldn't possibly fit into a short reel. Reframing the difficult ones as "love" is something I only learned later from the late poet @andreagibson. We feel, because we love. It has been a helpful reframe through all the feelings that come with life's hardest moments.

Those feelings continue to ebb and flow as I navigate life after cancer. Most often it is a dance between grief and gratitude.

Growing flowers not only gave me purpose through treatment, but it became a way to share my gratitude. So I brought them to my nurses. And then other oncology patients. And then we asked you to help us share them with more patients! And you did. Over and over. There are a few kind souls that seemingly randomly go onto our website to donate. Others add it to their carts when they purchase flowers. Others share annually when we make this request. It's a small gesture that makes a joyful difference to someone going through it. I can attest to this. So many of you can.

Last week we brought the first tulips of the season to Oncology and I was met by both old and new faces. All excited to help spread the joy of flowers to their patients. It feels impossible to hold space for anything other than the atrocities taking place in our country right now. So we must take decisive action.

A little peek at our set up and design for today's surprise proposal! 💍

No floral foam. No gross chemicals/preservatives on the blooms. Just beautifully scented local flowers, in clean ceramic vases with water and chicken wire, and a few moss burritos to cover up the lights. All will be reused and/or composted to help grow the next round of blooms.

We believe that how your flowers are grown and designed truly matters!

Our dear Hank, aka Hanky, Hank the tank, Hanksta the Gangsta, Harry, oiugie, moose, mouse, pot licker, potsticker... 😘 left this world for the way beyond last week.

Hank was Katie's constant companion, always just one step behind or ahead of her. Always up for the adventure to the flower studio, the ranch or (in his younger years) the mountains.

We will miss your serenades sweet boy. May there be plentiful carrots and celery snacks wherever your sweet spirit lands.

Summer is just flying by! It's going so fast, that we were able to make this week's bouquets in 12 seconds! 😜🫰

Flowers are hard to capture on camera. Particularly in a photograph. They are multidimensional (not unlike the beautiful humans who carry them down the aisle).

Other things not captured in a curated Instagram post, are the challenging moments leading up to the perfect bouquet, or the perfect wedding day. And, quite honestly, the difficult moments that will inevitably follow. This is true for flower farming, and in relationships!

But as Mary Oliver wrote: "It is a serious thing, just to be alive, on this fresh morning, in this broken world."

And the days that we also find beauty and love? That just might be the entire point!

This Wednesday evening, April 16th from 6-8 PM, we are collaborating with @tetonwomensbusinessinitiative and @artscoffeeshop for a mini flower workshop!

We will be creating living ornaments/planters with fresh moss and muscari. Just in time for spring! We will have room for ~15 people so we recommend advance reservation but drop in works too if space is available! $35

But yesterday we skied.

(And then we had a four hour phone meeting due to some very western driving conditions)

The more it snows, the more secure we feel in thinking about the next season's water resources. And the more we enjoy the weeks and months of planning and preparing for flowers!

Today is world cancer day. As many of you know, three years ago this month, I went in for my first mammogram and soon after received the news I had stage 3 breast cancer. But what you might not know is that Katie's life had already been deeply touched by cancer years before that, losing her father to Lymphoma. He loved flowers and his 74th birthday would have been February 15th, so this year we are donating a flower share to our oncology program in his honor. A second share will be donated in honor of two of the strongest cancer-dancers so many of us knew and loved: Peyton McGavin and Travis Gay.

We know we are not alone and that so many of you have been touched by this relentless disease. We also know that flowers have a magic about them. They can instantly ease an anxious or broken heart, grounding us in the beauty that is possible in even the most difficult moments.

This year we have flowers earlier than ever and we have reserved spots in both our winter and spring flower shares. We will be bringing these flowers to @stjohnshealth also plan to expand to @tetonvalleyhealth as well in the spring!

How it works: we bring one bunch of tulips weekly to the hospitals oncology departments, starting February 14th. The oncology nurses select a different patient every week to receive the flowers. It's always a surprise and a joyous one at that!

Last year with your support, we were able to bring 4 bunches weekly! We have already received $100 in donations (thank you!) so we're well on our way to a second flower share!

If you'd like to chip in, you can venmo @redhouseflowers with memo "oncology" or find the $10 donation link in our online store and add as many as you'd like.
